Anzolo

Valdobbiadene Prosecco Superiore DOCG Rive di San Michele Extra Brut

Produced from grapes coming from a single vineyard in San Michele di Feletto, after its golden highlights delight the eye, it offers a generously aromatic bouquet of spring wildflowers, crisp citrus, and ripe apricot, lifted by a hint of dried rose petals. A silk-smooth bead of dense bubbles enfolds the palate, while a magisterial balance between acidity and smoothness creates a distinctively harmonious, lingering sensation.

ORIGIN OF THE NAME The name Ànzolo, or Angel in the Venetian language, from the Campo Sant’Anzolo in Venice for our new Valdobbiadene, which was grown in the Rive di San Michele. The embroidery motif on the label, almost an encounter between West and East, reflects the fretwork decoration classic to the Venetian Gothic style. The interplay of line and space conveys a sense of lightness interrupted at the centre by the dragon, which serves here in its apotropaic rather than demonic role. The dragon of Anzolo is a protector of treasures and sacred places, a function classic to the Eastern world, in particular Mesopotamia, so much so that the figure often appears in the decoration on gates and portals.

VINEYARD The wine is made from Glera grapes grown in the area of San Michele di Feletto. The southwest-facing vineyard is planted in largely fluvioglacial soils laid down some 20,000 years ago, their significant age testified to by their reddish hue; their fine, silty texture lies in an ample matrix of medium-small pebbles. The water supply, generally of average dimensions, diminishes significantly in late July, but the soils are loose enough to enable good penetration by the root apparatus.

VINIFICATION The clusters are de-stemmed and the berries given a gentle pressing. The wine rests a minimum of nine months on the fine lees, a technique rarely practiced today but one that yields particularly firm-structured, long-lived wines that can stand up to the rigours of time. Following a Martinotti Method secondary fermentation, this Extra Brut is bottled with alow dosage.

GLASS AND SERVICE Enjoy at 6-8°C in a large Prosecco crystal glass. Avoid using a flute, which does not allow full expression of the wine’s bouquet.

PAIRING AND STORING: Perfect as an aperitif wine for festive moments with friends and family, it is also the ideal partner with lighter Italian and Eastern dishes, since it heightens rather than overwhelms their delicate flavours.
